Jesus is the light of life and brings hope in the dark times. The world can seem dark, but when we follow Jesus we have the light of life, even in the hardest times.
Bible Reading – John 8:12 (NIV)
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Reflect & Pray
There are times when the world seems a dark place. Stories in the news paint a dark picture and are dominated by scenes of a broken, hurting world. In our own lives or those who are close to us, life can be a struggle and darkness can cloud in, potentially overwhelming us. Hope can seem like a dim flickering light, on the point of being snuffed out by circumstances. However, God sent Jesus to bring light and hope that can never be extinguished by darkness. He walks with us and we are called to carry his ‘light of life’ into the world.
Think of a candle or tea light, it brings light where there has not been any light. It may seem dim on it’s own but even a single candle can bring light into a dark situation. Consider how you as an individual can shine God’s light into your community, family or workplace. Think of other candles being added to yours and how the collective light is brighter, reflect on how you can support and encourage others to shine their light.
Pray for those who you know are already standing with you as together you shine God’s love into your community.
Pray that you might find ways to be a light in the world, sharing the hope of Jesus with others, trusting that God will bring light where there was none.
