God doesn’t always calm the storm, but we can still know peace, because He is with us even in the midst of stormy times.
Bible Reading – John 14:1-6, 25-27 (NIV)
14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Reflect & Pray
It’s sometimes hard to feel truly at peace when we feel weighed down by the turmoil of life. We can become consumed by the circumstances and worries crowding our mind, causing us to feel far from peaceful. What is troubling your heart today? What storms of fear or anxiety are causing you to feel adrift in a turbulent sea? God wants you to know peace despite your circumstances because He is with you, even when troubles come, wave after wave. Unrealistic??
Meditate on John 14:27. Bring to God the waves of worry that crowd your mind and disturb your peace. Ask Him to reveal to you again His peace within the stormy waves of life. Continue to pray that God would give you a clear sense of his peace filling your heart when the waves of life seek to overwhelm.
